Mary Josephine Becktell, 90, Robinson, Illinois, passed away very peacefully Wednesday November 17, 2010 at her home. She was born in Stoy, Illinois, on February 29, 1920 and was the daughter of Arthur and Jennie Mae (Scott) Lackey. On June 7, 1942 she married Clarence L. Becktell, who preceded Mary in death on September 22, 2000.
Mary worked at Crawford Electronics as a laborer and supervisor for 13 years. During WWII, Mary worked at a Defense Plant in Detroit, Michigan. She was a true “Rosie the riveter”. Mary was a member of Dogwood Prairie United Methodist Church. She and Clarence moved back to the local area in 1998 after living in Buckeye, AZ. for 20 years. She enjoyed sewing and being with her grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Mary is survived by a son and daughter-in-law – Paul & Mary Jane Becktell; two grandsons – Donald Becktell and Kevin Becktell; a great-granddaughter Sara Brashear; one brother – Robert Lackey; one sister Oma Lackey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; husband; and two sisters – Mildred Bliss and Wilma Miller.
Cremation rites have been accorded per Mary’s request. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date.
